The Commissioner of Insurance, Mrs. Nyamikeh Kyiamah, has called on insurance industry players to design innovative products to cover the agriculture sector to make the sector more attractive.

The Insurance Commissioner said the main challenge of the insurance industry was its low penetration in some sectors of the economy which called for pragmatic interventions.

Mrs. Kyiamah was speaking at the 3rd graduation ceremony of the Ghana Insurance College.
She advised the graduating students to make Ghana proud by being productive wherever they found themselves.

A total of 201 students made up of 80 Advanced Diploma and 121 Diploma students graduated in Applied and Advanced Insurance Studies.

The board Chairman of the National Insurance Commission, Mr. Frederick Quayenortey, said the insurance industry could only play a meaningful role in the oil and gas industry if the appropriate manpower was trained for the industry.
While commending the school for training the finest professionals for the insurance sector, Mr. Quayenortey challenged the college to organize tailor-made courses that would help tackle the urgent needs of the insurance industry.

The director of the college, Mr. Justice Ofori, for his part, said the college was driven by the need to meet the needs of the industry, which had human capacity issues at its forefront.
